The biggest event in Bolesławiec—the Ceramic Festival—is just around the corner, yet the pergola by Ks. Popiełuszki Square is simply falling into disrepair. The issue was first brought to attention by a website for middle-school students. As the city authorities failed to respond, we decided to write about the deteriorating structure as well.

Broken boards, lots of rubbish, plastic bottles and blankets strewn around. All of this in a place where concerts by the biggest Polish pop stars will be held. A place to which many tourists and people from outside Bolesławiec will come for the Ceramic Festival. A place that is, after all, representative.

What is more, the pergola in question is located near a playground. And as is well known, when small children are involved, accidents can happen easily. Not to mention who the square is named after.

Krzysztof Abramowicz, a deputy inspector from the Municipal Services Department of the City Hall, told us only that the Bolesławiec authorities are considering renovating the structure. However, no steps have yet been taken. First, a contractor would have to be selected, which, as we know, would probably take some time. The renovation itself, according to the City Hall, should not take the contractor very long. It would probably be a matter of a few days. So there is hope that the pergola will be repaired by the time of the Ceramic Festival. For now, however, the deputy inspector does not want to make any commitments or give a repair date.

Let us hope that this report will somewhat accelerate the actions of the Municipal Services Department officials.
