We are publicizing the matter at the request of one of our readers. He drew attention to an information sign installed at the entrance to our city, from the direction of Wrocław. The sign lists all of Bolesławiec’s partner cities, including Prnjavor. The problem is that a Croatian flag was placed next to the town’s name, even though the city is located in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in Republika Srpska. One can only imagine the reaction of a Serb from Prnjavor who, having travelled to Bolesławiec, would see that his hometown was located in Croatia. Not to mention that instead of informing travellers, the sign misinforms them.

The reader has already tried to intervene in the matter at City Hall. Two weeks ago, he sent an email to UM press spokesperson Agnieszka Gergont. There was no response. Agnieszka Gergont says that she did not receive the email and has been on leave since Friday. “I have not examined the sign in detail,” City Secretary Jerzy Zieliński told Boleslawiec.org. “The contractor evidently made a mistake. If there is a Croatian flag there, it will be replaced with the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” the official added.

At the same time, it would be worth drawing attention to Bolesławiec’s four welcome signs. The signs, which were intended to promote the city’s biggest cultural events, were prepared without any real concept. They are overloaded with information and therefore illegible. They do not fulfil their function. Especially since anyone entering Bolesławiec by car has approximately 2.5 seconds to familiarise themselves with the current offerings of our city. To read all the information, one would probably have to stop the car.

Elżbieta Chojnacka, Head of the City Development and Promotion Department, did not want to identify those responsible for the illegible signs in a conversation with Boleslawiec.org. “If the mayor authorises me to provide information, I will provide it,” the department head said.

We encourage Boleslawiec.org readers to send in graphic proposals that could replace the current signs overloaded with information.
