We return to the controversy surrounding the decision in the call for applications for funding the activities of municipal sports clubs in 2025. The pool of money for sport amounted to PLN 400,000. Many clubs did not receive funding. Their representatives disagree with the results of the competition, claiming that the money was divided unfairly and that the law may have been violated.

The sports clubs that did not receive funding (see the table below – projects with an amount of PLN 0) disagree with this division of the money. Two weeks ago, as part of their protest, the clubs submitted letters of complaint to Bolesławiec City Hall, alleging irregularities in the assessment of applications by the evaluation committee, unequal treatment of entities applying for funding, as well as discrepancies between the criteria announced in the competition and those applied when assessing the applications. They demanded that the city mayor cancel the concluded competition and announce a new one. They also demanded a change in the composition of the committee evaluating funding applications.

The prosecutor’s office will deal with the division of money for sport

The District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec confirms that on February 25 it received, in this case, a notification of the possibility that municipal officials had committed a crime. The case has been registered.

The city office’s explanation concerning the division of funds for sport:

Funding was awarded to applications that scored more than 30 points in the assessment. The key criterion was the number of children participating in training.

Although the issue of funding for sports clubs may seem complicated, it certainly deserves attention, especially in the context of the open call for applications for 2025 announced by the Mayor of Bolesławiec. The aim of this competition is to support the implementation of public tasks involving sports initiatives that may be carried out by non-governmental organisations and other entities operating in the public-benefit sphere.

By December 30, 2024, as many as 35 applications had been submitted to the City Hall, for a total of PLN 1,456,717. This is an impressive amount, considering that the planned public funds for 2025 amounted to PLN 400,000, meaning that the requested funding covered 27.5% of the total needs. Such strong interest demonstrates the growing activity of sports clubs in the city.

Due to the limited pool of funds, funding was awarded only to applications that scored more than 30 points in the assessment. The key criterion was the number of children participating in training, which shows how important it is to engage young people in sporting activity. Each of the assessed applications described the involvement of between 150 and 250 children and young people, which significantly contributes to building a healthy and active community and engaging a broad group of participants.

The process of awarding funds was conducted in accordance with established rules, which included, among other things, assessing the applicant’s ability to carry out the task, calculating costs and considering previous cooperation. These rules were developed jointly with the sports clubs and are included in the competition announcement each time.

All available funds for carrying out tasks in the field of sport were ultimately distributed, demonstrating the importance attached to supporting sport and physical activity among children and young people in Bolesławiec.
