The 10th session of the Gromadka Municipal Council was held in Gromadka. Municipal sport was discussed during the session. Ryszard Kawka (Chairman of the Gromadka Municipal Council) invited Dariusz Jośko, director of the Municipal Sports and Recreation Centre in Bolesławiec, to take part in the debate on sport. Ryszard Kawka’s invitation was also accepted by Dariusz Mucha, a longtime sports activist and, among other roles, a member of the Management Board of Bolesławiecki Klub Sportowy.
The discussion on municipal sport was opened by Krzysztof Malina, Chairman of the Commission for Culture, Education, Health, Social Affairs, Public Order and Fire Protection of the municipal council. Krzysztof Malina spoke about prospects for developing amateur, competitive and school sport in Gmina Gromadka. An important part of the commission chairman’s speech was a reminder of the sporting successes of people from the Gmina Gromadka area. One example is Marcela Urda’s success: she won the Polish Championship and came fourth in Europe in weightlifting. Tomasz Król can also boast a considerable success, having triumphed at the regional level in the 400-metre hurdles.
In the further part of the debate, representatives of the Management Board of the Gminny Klub Sportowy, Tadeusz Gąsiorowski and Zbigniew Kozłowski, took the floor. Tadeusz Gąsiorowski, president of GKS and a councillor of the Gromadka Municipal Council, spoke about municipal spending on funding football clubs. This year, the team from Gromadka will receive PLN 23,000 from the municipal budget, while the team from Krzyżowa will receive PLN 10,000. Municipal grants are supplemented by money from the Club’s sponsors (PLN 8,000). The club president’s statement was supplemented by Zbigniew Kozłowski, who criticised earlier decisions to abandon the renovation of the stadium in Gromadka. The money intended for this purpose (PLN 50,000) was allocated to the renovation of the Gromadka–Osła district road. The GKS Management Board member raised the issue of ownership of the sports stadium in Gromadka. In his opinion, the actions of the current owner, Gmina Gromadka, should aim to transfer the pitch and related infrastructure to GKS.
An important part of the debate was a discussion on school sport in the Gmina. Robert Furman, director of the School Complex in Gromadka, presented planned and partly implemented initiatives for developing student sport, such as an interschool athletics league and the “Get to Know Your County” bicycle rally. Robert Furman also called for greater activity from Student Sports Clubs. The joint conclusion reached by the school principals was that a school sport coordinator should be appointed at the municipal level. The coordinator would be responsible for streamlining activities and ensuring an efficient flow of information about sporting events and all needs related to school sport.
Dariusz Jośko, director of MOSiR in Bolesławiec, spoke about his experience in organising sporting events. According to the councillors, cooperation between the city and municipalities in organising joint sporting events would be a valuable initiative. However, transferring experience from the city to the municipal level is extremely difficult, in the councillors’ opinion, due to the difference in the scale of the events organised. The debate concluded with a proposal to continue the discussion in the Commission of the Gromadka Municipal Council. The Commission’s work will result in the development of a Long-Term Sport Development Programme for the Gmina Gromadka.
