The driver turned out to be a 20-year-old resident of Bytom who was transporting packages from Spain. After opening the tarpaulin, the officers detected a strong, irritating odor. A pallet with boxes was inside the Fiat's cargo area. The police began to suspect that the man might be smuggling drugs.

At the police station, the officers thoroughly checked the contents of the packages. They found more than 28 kg of marijuana inside the cartons. The drugs were hidden among packets of crisps. Since this involved the smuggling of a significant quantity of drugs, officers from the CBŚP unit in Jelenia Góra took over the case. The black-market value of the seized marijuana was estimated at nearly PLN 850,000.

The 20-year-old from Bytom was detained and charged with the intra-Community transport of a significant quantity of narcotic drugs (more than 28 kg of marijuana). By court decision, the man was remanded in custody for three months. He faces at least three years in prison. The investigation is supervised by the District Prosecutor's Office in Zgorzelec.
