On Wednesday, August 31, the second round of the Polish Regional Cup was played in Nowogrodziec. Chrobry Nowogrodziec and Sparta Zebrzydowa faced each other. The match was fierce and hard-fought. The result was decided in the 19th minute by Robert Zarzycki. The home player took advantage of a “gift” from the visiting centre-back, who cleared the ball poorly. The home striker was waiting for just such an opportunity and beat the visiting goalkeeper with a shot that the ball even deflected off the post. There was plenty of battling in the middle third of the pitch during the rest of the game. However, there were few scoring chances.
In the second half, both teams created several good opportunities, but they lacked effective finishing. Sparta became more active towards the end of the match. Interestingly, the visitors played with 10 men from the 70th minute (Dariusz Zdunek received a second yellow card and, consequently, a red card), and it was then that they had several good chances. On one occasion, the crossbar saved the hosts from conceding an equaliser. No more goals were scored, however. Chrobry Nowogrodziec defeated Sparta Zebrzydowa 1–0 (1–0) and advanced to the next round of the cup competition.
This coming Sunday (September 4), the match of the round in Group III of the Jelenia Góra A-class will be played at the stadium in Nowogrodziec. At 5:00 p.m., the match between Chrobry Nowogrodziec and BKS Bolesławiec will take place.
