The original idea of Karolina Gorczyńska, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, is taking shape in Bolesławiec’s Market Square, in a sense “at the foot” of the large ceramic pot being created by Mateusz Grobelny.

The project is expected to conclude today at 11:30 p.m., when the kiln, made of steel and silicon mats, will be opened and viewers will see the results of firing the ceramic objects inside it.

The gas-fired kiln will heat up for several dozen hours. It will contain clay sculptures and objects being fired. At its peak, the temperature will reach 1,200ºC. The structure will then be opened in front of the viewers. The sculpture, glowing from the high temperature, will be bombarded with a mixture of sawdust and oxides, creating illuminated effects on its surface. The final result of the creative work will be available to admire the following day.

Karolina Gorczyńska is a graduate of the Faculty of Ceramics and Glass at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. She has participated in numerous workshops and open-air events, including the High Temperatures Festival in Wrocław and the Pszczyna Ceramics Festival. In her work, she balances on the boundary between art and design, also touching on other disciplines such as installation, drawing and painting. She approaches each project individually. Her undisputed fascination with clay in her creative work guides her ongoing efforts and experiments in traditional and contemporary techniques of preservation.

Start of artistic activities: 16 August 2016.
Opening of the kiln: 19 August 2016, 11:30 p.m..
Location: Market Square, Bolesławiec

The task is co-financed from funds received under the “Lower Silesian Support Programme for ECoC 2016”.
