The burglary took place early in the morning on July 17 in Piechowice. The couple—a 45-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man—broke into one of the grocery discount stores. They stole cigarettes of various brands worth more than PLN 4,000.

The break-in triggered an alarm, which alarmed one of the residents. The man notified the police. He reported that the people suspected of the act had most likely driven away in a BMW. Police officers began searching for them.

They spotted the vehicle at one of the petrol stations in Jelenia Góra. The driver turned out to be a 37-year-old resident of Bogatynia, who was travelling with a 45-year-old female passenger. Police officers found a bag containing the stolen cigarettes in the car. Moreover, the man had amphetamine on him.
