Last weekend, the Open Badminton Championships were held in Wrocław and Złotoryja. Competitors from Bolesławiec performed well at both events.

Wrocław Open Championships

On Saturday, the third round of the Wrocław Open Championships series was held. The junior final was an all-Bolesławiec affair. After a hard-fought battle, Piotr Korta won. Tomasz Wilas took second place; both represent TOP Bolesławiec. In the junior girls’ category, Bolesławiec player Sara Czubak also won, defeating all her opponents without difficulty.

In the older seniors’ category, Piotr Kowalski (Bolesławiec) took second place, losing in the final after a hard-fought match lasting nearly an hour to last year’s winner of the entire OMW series, Wiesław Kaleciński (Wrocław).

Open Championships of Złotoryja County

On Sunday, the first Open Badminton Championships of Złotoryja County were held in Złotoryja. Nearly 40 competitors from Bolesławiec, Milicz, Jerzmanice Zdrój, Chojnów, Raszówka, Legnica and Złotoryja came to the championships. The Złotoryja competition took place in a pleasant atmosphere. The organizers provided many prizes for the participants and free refreshments. However, they did not avoid several mishaps that affected the sporting side of the event, such as a polished floor and courts positioned toward uncovered windows.

Despite several organizational shortcomings, the badminton players were satisfied and announced that they would take part in the next edition of the championships. The organizers, for their part, assured everyone that all organizational shortcomings would be eliminated in the next edition and that the event itself would become a permanent fixture in the calendar of events held in Złotoryja.

TOP Bolesławiec club warmly invites everyone to train in badminton. Young people who want to play can sign up on Thursdays and Fridays at the sports hall of Primary School No. 1 in Bolesławiec, at Jana Pawła II Street.
