The arrested man is a 25-year-old resident of Legnica. He is suspected of handling stolen vehicles and components taken from stolen cars. After reviewing the materials gathered by the police and the prosecutor’s office, the court remanded the man in custody for three months.
To date, Legnica police officers, working together with officers from the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Police Headquarters in Wrocław, have arrested a total of seven people. Three people who played leading roles in the criminal operation have been remanded in custody. Several car chop shops were shut down, and vehicles were recovered intact, along with numerous components taken from stolen cars. Police findings indicate that the group was responsible for stealing at least 60 cars. Investigators established that it specialized in stealing Audi and BMW vehicles.
At the chop shops, police officers also secured documents belonging to some of the stolen cars. They also identified the places where the criminals disposed of what remained after dismantling the stolen vehicles. Divers from the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Police Headquarters in Wrocław were involved in the operation. After searching bodies of water near Legnica, they also found a considerable number of license plates from stolen cars.
The suspects face prison sentences of up to 10 years.
