Some believe there are many vacant positions and that unemployed people put too little effort into their search. For others, the issue of unemployment has remained unchanged for many years because, despite their efforts, it is difficult for them to find stable employment.
Although public opinion is divided, the latest report by ManpowerGroup experts indicates that Poland ranks fourth among the countries of Europe, the Middle East and Africa where work can be obtained relatively easily. Of course, the report is generalized. It concerns the entire country, while individual regions have different characteristics when it comes to vacant positions in particular industries and their number. Sometimes, obtaining employment requires completely changing one’s life, for example by deciding to move the family or separate from loved ones. Before taking such a final step, however, let us do everything possible to find work locally.
Preparation and activity
Effective job-search methods are always based on good preparation and activity. Therefore, it is worth starting by drawing up an action plan that defines what kind of work interests us and what qualifications we have. Preparing the necessary documents, such as a CV and cover letter, is no less important. The more attention we pay to the accuracy of these documents, the greater the chance of attracting an employer’s interest. A job interview is one of the common stages valued by employers. In order to make a good impression, we should familiarize ourselves with the rules of conduct during such an interview, which also increase the chances of obtaining a position. It is worth using every possible method of looking for work, namely reviewing offers posted online, for example on the Jobsora website, in the press and at the employment office, as well as asking acquaintances for information. Direct contact often proves to be the most sensible approach. Sending a CV electronically is not a bad solution, but visiting particular companies in person usually provides a better and faster way to achieve the intended goal. The ABC principle has seemed one of the best for years. It refers to activity, meaning actively looking for work; direct contact with companies that interest us; and the patience we must demonstrate before finding a satisfying job.
Job seeking and development
While looking for work, there is nothing to prevent us from improving our qualifications. Many free courses and training programmes are currently available, which ultimately expand the range of our skills. Competition in the labour market concerns not only employers but also potential employees. The more documented qualifications we have, the more competitive we are among people applying for a particular position. Sometimes it is worth taking an internship, which admittedly does not provide earnings at the level of a full-time employee. Nevertheless, if the employer appreciates our commitment, there is a good chance that, when the internship ends, they will offer us a permanent contract.
