An architect by education, a singer, poet and composer by choice. And, which will probably surprise some admirers of his work, a devoted supporter of Wisła Kraków. His life was changed by a recital he attended at the Teatr Kameralny. It was a recital by Ewa Demarczyk. Grechuta was then in his third year of university. He heard "Karuzela z madonnami" and, just as in the Perfect song, could not fall asleep at night. He later met Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz, with whom he first founded a cabaret and then the Anawa music group (from the French "en avant", meaning "forward"). He also performed solo. He recorded two albums with the avant-garde group WIEM (W Innej Epoce Muzycznej). However, it was with Anawa that he achieved his greatest success. It was with this group that he sang his best-known hits, such as "Niepewność", "Będziesz moja panią", "Dni, których nie znamy" and arguably the finest song of his career – "Korowód".
He sang songs set to texts by Poland’s greatest poets, including Adam Mickiewicz, Julian Tuwim, Stanisław Wyspiański and Agnieszka Osiecka. Together with Pawluśkiewicz, he composed the music for the play "Szalona lokomotywa", based on the work of Witkacy. With Krystyna Janda, he recorded the album "W malinowym chruśniaku", featuring a cycle of famous erotic poems by Bolesław Leśmian. He collaborated with Maryla Rodowicz, Zbigniew Wodecki and Artur Rojek of Myslovitz. From the mid-1990s, he performed only sporadically. He died on October 9, 2006, in Kraków.
The program will begin at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free.
