This will be a busy time for us, these few days ahead. We are easing into the week with Monday, whose main program highlights are a late-morning screening for schools from the New Horizons Film Education project, a rehearsal by the preschoolers from Public Preschool No. 9, and an evening screening at the PozaNova cinema, where through Wednesday inclusive we are showing “The Salt of the Earth,” directed by Juliano Ribeiro Salgado and Wim Wenders. Fans of fast-paced action films may want to give it a miss—it is melancholic. But it is also an almost brilliant documentary depicting how humanity, people and their problems have changed over the past 40 years. The lights go down at 6 p.m.; tickets cost PLN 11.

On Tuesday, under the grass-colored dome, we expect a great deal of stage fright and trembling legs. But don’t worry—fear has big eyes, and the chance to appear on stage is no small pleasure. On Tuesday we are holding a recitation contest for pupils in Grades I–III of primary schools. If parents, grandmothers or grandfathers would like to listen to their sweetest little ones, presentations begin at 10 a.m.

Wednesday will be crowded here. Oh yes, it will. On Wednesday we invite you to a casting for the drama series “Murder Commission,” produced for TVP1. The leading roles are played by: Krzysztof Pieczyński, Małgorzata Buczkowska and Paweł Małaszyński. The Edwin acting agency from Wrocław is looking for extras aged 8–100. Recruitment will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Municipal Theatre Review of Preschool Groups will also take place here on Wednesday. It begins at 10 a.m. And you know what... For this reason too, we expect crowds!

And to round out Wednesday’s attendance just a little more, we are pleased to announce that, as every week, seniors from the Cross-Border University of the Third Age will meet here that day. The lecture begins at 11 a.m., and its topic is “An Hour for the Earth.” The meeting will be led by MA Dorota Tyniec and Alicja Hartwiger.

The following day, Thursday, we will also host senior students. This time, they will attend a workshop entitled “Sanepid on Diabetes and Dishes for Diabetics,” led by
internist Dr Andrzej Kraczko.

On Thursday we also invite children and young people—in the afternoon we have circus activities for you, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

On Friday at 5 p.m., let’s all meet in the MDK gallery. It is worth it. The opening of an art exhibition by artists from the Görlitz/Loebau Association of Visual Artists.

And on Sunday, after a delicious broth, we invite families with children to another musical meeting with the Żak family. It begins at 4 p.m.; admission is PLN 5. And what is it this time? A program under the title “The Great Orchestra of Small Instruments of the World.”

And finally, an invitation for film lovers. What more is there to say... This will be a hit. And certainly a premiere. A world premiere! We invite you to a 98-minute documentary by Joshua Oppenheimer entitled “The Look of Silence.” This moving film complements the Oscar-nominated “The Act of Killing.” Through footage showing the perpetrators of crimes committed in Indonesia in 1965, a surviving married couple learns how their son was murdered and who carried out the execution. Their youngest son, optician Adi, decides to break the conspiracy of silence and confront his brother’s still-unpunished killers in a seemingly insane way: by examining their eyesight, he demands that they accept responsibility for their deeds. This unprecedented film bears witness to the breaking of fifty years of silence. The lights go down at 6 p.m.; tickets cost PLN 14 and 12.

Come along!

P.S. Among the important things, though rather difficult to classify under culture, we should also mention the annual reporting meetings of the Zgorzelec housing cooperative, which will take place here at 4 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. And although it is not a performance, concert or recital, we are writing about it because, first, it will take place here and, second, it is probably quite important news for many of you.
