Lower Silesian police officers remind drivers that from April 4 to October 15 this year—excluding the periods from April 29 to May 3, May 25 to 29, and July 1 to August 31—roadworks will be carried out on an approximately 19-kilometre section of the northern carriageway of the A4 motorway (towards Wrocław) running through the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. Officers appeal for particular caution and for drivers to adapt their driving to the changes introduced in traffic.

The roadworks may cause disruptions to traffic. “Therefore, we remind everyone to exercise particular caution while driving, adjust their speed to the road conditions and the speed limits introduced in connection with the works. Let us also pay particular attention to the horizontal and vertical road signs that have been introduced and keep safe distances between vehicles,” the officers say.

They add: “It is also worth planning your journey to allow for a longer travel time along the section of motorway under repair, or choosing an alternative route.”

The motorway works will be carried out in shorter sections. The schedule of the planned roadworks is as follows:

  • April 4–8 – construction of crossovers at km 174.8 and 178.6 (places where traffic moves from one carriageway to the other)
  • April 11–27 – resurfacing from km 174.8 to 178.6 and from km 193.2 to 194.2 (Brzeg interchange)
  • April 27–28 – reconstruction of crossovers at km 174.8 and 178.6
  • May 4–6 – construction of crossovers at km 189.8 and 193.2
  • May 7–24 – resurfacing from km 189.8 to 193.2
  • May 24–25 – reconstruction of crossovers at km 189.8 and 193.2
  • May 30–31 – construction of crossovers at km 185.4 and 189.8
  • June 1–14 – resurfacing from km 185.4 to 189.8 and construction of a crossover at km 181.2
  • June 15–29 – resurfacing from km 181.2 to 185.4 and reconstruction of the crossover at km 189.8
  • June 29–30 – reconstruction of crossovers at km 181.2 and 185.4
  • September 1–7 – construction of crossovers at km 178.6, 179.4 and 181.2
  • September 8–21 and September 22–October 8 – roadworks from km 178.6 to 179.4 (Brzezimierz interchange) and from km 179.4 to 181.2
  • October 9–15 – reconstruction of crossovers at km 178.6, 179.4 and 181.2.

During the construction or reconstruction of crossovers, the overtaking lanes on both carriageways of the motorway will be closed, and traffic will use one lane. While resurfacing works are carried out on the designated sections of the carriageway, two-way traffic will operate on the southern carriageway (the carriageway towards Opole), with one lane in each direction. Lanes carrying traffic in opposite directions will be separated in accordance with the temporary traffic management plan. Speed limits will be introduced at each section where works are being carried out, as well as on the sections preceding the lane reductions. Information about disruptions will be displayed on variable-message signs on the carriageways in both directions.

To limit disruptions during the holiday period, the roadworks will be divided into two stages:

  • first – lasting from around April 4 until the end of June
  • second – from September until around October 15.

In July and August, the regular traffic organization is planned to be restored, using both carriageways.

The roadworks will include, among other things, replacement of the wearing course and binder course of the carriageway. The motorway shoulders will also be replenished and reshaped, while the ditches will be restored and cleaned. The contractor will replace damaged road drainage components and restore the horizontal road markings.

Information on traffic conditions on the A4 motorway and recommended detours is available around the clock from the Road Information Point (PID) in Wrocław, tel. 71 320 98 18 or 19 111 (a nationwide number; for some mobile networks, the number 19 111 must be preceded by 0).
