The program at II LO was prepared with the students by Beata Ulatowska, the school counselor. The high school students presented spring costumes. The main attraction was a presentation of the school’s talents. The young people performed well-known hits, both newer and older; some turned to classic rock and performed covers by the great masters of the genre.

The spring festival once again showed that II LO provides conditions for developing interests and, above all, that teachers support their students. This applies to all areas: mathematics, the arts, social sciences and many others. The school gives students opportunities to discover and try what they are talented at and to pursue that direction.

A School That Develops Interests and Supports Talent

Students at the “two” can hone their talents through school clubs and the program. Thanks to their passion and the teachers’ expertise, the school obtained the elite “School That Develops Interests and Supports Talent” certificate in 2015. In September, during an assessment of how talents are discovered at the second high school, the school received 98 out of a possible 100 points.

The primary aim of the talent-support program, developed at II LO by Beata Ulatowska together with a team of nine teachers, is to create suitable conditions for discovering and developing every student’s potential, as well as for their comprehensive development. The teachers assume that their students possess intellectual curiosity, creative motivation and aptitude for a chosen field of knowledge, as well as a passion for artistic, sporting or social activities.

The Drama Club: II LO’s Showcase

The drama club run by Izabella Daniel also deserves attention. The French teacher and director works with young people on adaptations of classical plays such as “The Miser”, as well as contemporary works such as “8 Women”. First, the club staged “A Christmas Carol” and an excerpt from “Ferdydurke” in the school auditorium. The school audience’s reaction was very positive and encouraged the students to continue their work. The next step was performing on the stage of the Old Theatre in Bolesławiec.

II LO under the auspices of the University of Wrocław

Mirosław Sakowski also signed an agreement with the Institute of Slavic Philology. Students with an interest in history enthusiastically participate in academic classes, use the university library and attend classes taught by institute staff. The agreement was signed partly as a result of II LO’s cooperation with Dr. Gordana Durdev-Małkiewicz of the Institute of Slavic Philology, as well as the great commitment of teachers Barbara Sykulska and Małgorzata Matyjaszczuk to preserving the history of Poles who came from the territory of the former Yugoslavia from being forgotten.

ScienceLab and Modern Patriotism

The school participates in the Modern Patriotism Academy project, carried out by the Klub Jagielloński association. During the workshops, students had, among other opportunities, the chance to take on the roles of parliamentarians and Bolesławiec authorities.

The Interactive Science Center “ScienceLab” operates at II LO. The room was renovated and equipment was purchased. Mariusz Wierzchosławski, a physics teacher, oversees the project and the interactive room. The well-known popular-science periodical “Wiedza i Życie” became the project’s media patron.
