Cinema, because we invite you to Poza Nova for two interesting films. Through Wednesday inclusive, Mariusz is screening “We Are Your Friends”. Awarded at festivals in Sundance and Berlin, it is a dazzling account of the founding of the world's youngest country—South Sudan. Its author is Hubert Sauper, nominated for an Oscar for the acclaimed “Darwin's Nightmare”.
“We Are Your Friends”, or “We come in peace”—these are the sentences that Martians landing on our planet always utter in the cinema. It is a film about modern colonialism, and about a form that shamelessly claims it really is not colonialism. Mariusz is screening it at 18:01, and tickets cost 11 zł.
From Friday, we will be showing the Chinese-French-Japanese drama “Mountains May Depart”. It is the story of Liangzi and Zhang, childhood friends who fell in love with the same girl. She decides to marry Zhang, who is the wealthier of the two young men. Soon they have a son, who, aptly enough, is named Dollar. The film takes place successively in 1999, 2014 and 2025. Spanning 25 years, the story of this love triangle is definitely more than a tale of love, disappointment and separations. We are curious to see what you will find in this film. Mariusz is screening it from Friday at 18:01. Note that weekend tickets are more expensive, costing 12 and 14 zł, but it is still worth it!
On Tuesday evening, as every month, the Tandem discussion club invites you to discuss Polish-German closeness, as well as the concerns and benefits associated with it.
Wednesday and Thursday will be devoted to the Cross-Border University of the Third Age. The Wednesday lecture and Thursday workshops traditionally begin at 11:00.
Thursday and Friday are the next days on which we will carry out the New Horizons of Film Education project for schools.
And since we have reached the end of the week so neatly, we invite you on Saturday, which here will unfold under the sign of romantic gingerbread hearts. Kaziuki will take place on Saturday—a fair modelled on those that used to be held in Lviv long ago. There will be colourful birds, excellent chamanina, dancing, singing and, of course, gingerbread hearts, which we particularly recommend to those planning romantic conquests.
And if, after giving such a heart to your chosen one, you run out of inspiration about what to do next... We have a suggestion for you too! Invite her (or him) to MDK on Sunday. At 19:00, the international opera group Sonori Ensemble invites you to an unforgettable evening of opera and operetta. Tickets cost 30 zł, and in return you will be able to hear operetta hits and colourful opera scenes from works by the most famous composers, including Mozart, Rossini, Verdi, Puccini, Delibes, Gounod, Offenbach, Strauss, Kalman, Gershwin and others. Listeners will surely be enchanted by the atmospheric “Flower Duet”, the humorous “Doll Aria”, the seductive Carmen, and the amusing characters from “Die Fledermaus”, “The Gypsy Baron” and many other works. Performing: Agnieszka Drożdżewska (soprano, Wrocław), Barbara Spitzer (soprano, Vienna), Anna Wilczyńska (soprano, Wrocław), Izabela Strzelecka (mezzo-soprano, Wrocław), Tomasz Tracz (tenor, Wrocław), Ivo Michl (baritone, Prague), Witold Janusz (piano, Wrocław). Hosted by Martyna Witowska (Ad Spectatores Theatre, Wrocław).
We invite you—oh yes!!!
