Proof? Here you go: at the PozaNova cinema, the reels are burning! Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday! On all these days, we hold morning screenings for schools as part of the New Horizons Film Education project. There are days (Tuesday, for example) when we have as many as three screenings before noon alone! And there are evening screenings as well—no let-up!

This week, we invite film lovers to see the incredible story “Eisenstein in Guanajuato.” The film was directed by Peter Greenaway, and for connoisseurs of avant-garde cinema, that name is a sure sign that plenty will be happening on screen. Greenaway made his latest film about death and sex, although there is definitely more of the latter here. The eponymous Eisenstein, placed on a pedestal in his homeland, becomes a man hungry for freedom in Guanajuato (Mexico), giving himself permission to be wild and spontaneous. And, in his thirties, to discover a love of easy morals. Interested? You’re very welcome—through Wednesday inclusive, at 6:01 p.m. Tickets cost eleven.

From Friday, Ciro Guerra invites you to see “Embrace of the Serpent.” It is the story of the relationship between an Amazonian shaman and two scientists who spent 40 years searching the virgin forests for a sacred medicinal plant. It is a picture of the meeting of civilizations, seen through the eyes of a man from that place. The jury of this year’s Cannes competition awarded it the top prize for art cinema, and the film is competing for an Oscar nomination. And things like that are happening here now! But beware: weekend tickets are more expensive, costing 12 and 14 złoty.

On Wednesday, tradition will be upheld and students of the Transborder University of the Third Age will meet here again. The 11 a.m. lecture will be titled “If You’re Going to Have Fun, Have Fun.” It’s great to be a senior student! Especially since, it seems, the junior students are having their exam session right now :) And here—well, total relaxation. Until Thursday, that is, because Thursday gets serious. On Thursday, TUTW students will have a workshop, also here. The topic: “HIV—Truths and Myths.”

Also on Thursday, our stage will host a recitation competition for declaimers from the Special Educational Centre in Zgorzelec. A great event if you have time in the morning. It apparently starts as early as eight o’clock. On Thursday afternoon, meanwhile, we invite you to a circus workshop led here by members of the Circus Association from Görlitz.

We invite you to Sunday with a particularly big smile. Children and parents are welcome. At 4 p.m., music-and-education activities for little ones will begin, led by Agata and Grzegorz Żakowie. During the session, our young guests will be able not only to listen to music and interesting stories connected with it, and not only to view slides from the musical journeys of the presenting couple, but also to try their hand at playing various instruments. There will also be an opportunity to create a visual interpretation together of the pieces they have heard. Sunday’s meeting launches our new series of Sunday music-and-education meetings, which will continue until May. Admission is just 5 złoty.
