In recent days, the swan family has not limited itself to walks around the city park, but has also ventured into the adjoining streets.

It is worth recalling that the adult pair of swans arrived at the pond on Bankowa Street in 2012 and welcomed offspring two years later, in June.

The swans have become a permanent feature of this part of the city’s landscape and an inseparable element of Bolesławiec’s city park; from the very beginning, they have attracted the general interest and affection of local residents.

Unfortunately, some Bolesławiec residents show their attachment to these beautiful birds by sharing even their own food with them. “The problem is that when feeding birds, we make many mistakes that often do more harm than good,” municipal officials say. (We wrote about this, for example, in the article Only three cygnets on the pond—what happened to the fourth?).

They add: “That is why it is worth following the rule that it is better not to feed birds at all than to do it incorrectly. The swans on the pond on Bankowa Street are regularly fed by municipal services, which take care of their proper diet. There is therefore no concern that the swans’ walks around the city are intended to find food. It is more reasonable to assume that the swans’ walks are ‘exploratory’ in nature.”
