Gloria is an attractive middle-aged woman. She lives alone, sees her children rarely, but regularly goes dancing. She enjoys spending time there, although she usually avoids male company. Her attitude changes when Rodolfo appears on the dance floor one night. The charming gentleman makes Gloria want a passionate romance. Sebastian Leilo tells the story of Gloria’s life. You guessed it. He is the director who asked Paulina Garcia and Sergio Hernandez to play out this story. He titled the tale “Gloria,” and it can be seen at the MDK cinema through next Wednesday inclusive. Tickets cost PLN 11; the lights go down at 6 p.m.

Next Tuesday is a council-session day under the green dome. The Zgorzelec City Council meets at noon. The agenda includes work on the Sustainable Development Strategy, issues related to recruitment to Zgorzelec kindergartens and first grades of primary schools, and the adoption of a programme for caring for homeless animals and preventing animal homelessness.

On Wednesday, we have another meeting of the students of the Transborder University of the Third Age. As usual, it begins at 11 a.m. This time, the lecture is titled “If You’re Going to Have Fun, Have Fun Properly” and will continue Jolanta Rybotycka’s lecture from last week.

And speaking of fun, there will probably be no shortage of it an hour earlier. On Wednesday at 10 a.m., students of the non-public Prymus primary school have invited their grandmothers and grandfathers and prepared a special celebration for them. There will be poems, songs and plenty of warmth.

Thursday is interesting too. Be sure to add this event to your phone reminders. At 5 p.m., together with the Zgorzelec music school, we invite you to the annual “Carnival Concert.” The performers will be graduates and former students of the school who are now professional musicians: Łukasz Bzowski, brothers Tomasz and Michał Skulscy, the Kosiorek family, Karolina Najechalska, Alicja Pogłódek, Joanna Lewicka, Przemysław Bereziuk and Joanna Michalik. There will be classical music, jazz and popular music. We know you know it is worth attending! Especially since admission is free.

On Friday, we change the mood and, together with the Czarny Nosal duo, take you to a land of gentleness and poetry sung to the accompaniment of guitars. Rafał Nosal’s original voice and beautiful songs, combined with Darek Czarny’s experimental—indeed, electrifying!—guitar, create a unique whole that must be heard. We start at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are already on sale and cost PLN 25.

Also on Friday, on behalf of Agata Szmigiel, who runs the “Pod kopułą” art studio, we invite you to the Afirmacja club, where at 5 p.m. there will be an opening of an exhibition of works by Karolina Radziun, a former student of our studio. Partyzantów Street, number two, in case anyone is from out of town or has forgotten.

And finally, contrary to the saying that Friday crowns the week, we invite you to Saturday. That day will bring the culmination of an artistic project by one of the local online portals, which organized a talent show under the slogan “Zdolni 2016.” The final of this undertaking will take place on our stage on 30 January, beginning at 4 p.m.

Stay vigilant!
