In the article Is this the end of food distribution for the poorest? we reported that food distribution in our town would end on January 18. The reason? There was no place where a food warehouse could operate. (The building on Zwycięstwa Street is to be either sold or renovated.) In an interview with “ii,” Jadwiga Bobek, president of the Bolesławiec branch of Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Dzieci, said that what was needed was “a room larger than 250 sq m, on the ground floor, so that a truck could pull up there,” as well as a place where “there would be room for an office, a cold store, 100 pallets of food, and also space for the people distributing the food.”
A comment by county head Dariusz Kwaśniewski on the matter was published on the Bolesławiec County website:
This does not necessarily have to be the end. Everything depends on the municipalities, which should distribute food to their poorest residents – because this is the responsibility of the municipalities, not the county.
For nearly 10 years, we helped the Bolesławiec branch of Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Dzieci carry out this task by making a room in our building available to TPD. The food warehouse therefore operated, in a sense, “on the side” of one of the county office buildings.
At present, we would have to bear the costs of maintaining a warehouse specifically for this institution. And we simply can no longer do that.
That is the whole truth! The municipalities must decide what happens next. I wish them a YES decision ;))
Pass this information on. Ask your city president, mayor or commune head to create a warehouse. Problem solved!
