The accident occurred at around 7 p.m. A witness to the accident notified the police. According to his account, a Volkswagen car skidded, broke through the posts separating the road and plunged into the Bóbr River at high speed. Police officers and firefighters immediately rushed to help the people trapped in the car. The rescue operation began seven minutes after the report. Because those travelling in the car could not get out of the vehicle, divers were also called to the scene.

The firefighters managed to pull the car onto the bank, but resuscitation of all three men was unsuccessful.

Everything indicates that excessive speed and an icy road surface contributed to the tragedy. The victims were residents of Włodzice Wielkie and Bolesławiec.
