The opening will begin in the BOK-MCC conference room (2nd floor), where a film about firing ceramics in a wood-fired kiln will be presented. The kiln has been located at the Warsaw university since the interwar period.
The “Space of Geometry” exhibition presents the educational direction adopted at the ceramics studio. It offers an opportunity to learn about the level and creativity of the students of the Warsaw academy. The exhibition is curated by dr hab. Stanisław Brach, professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, who has headed the ceramics studio since 2010.
This studio “... serves not only sculpture students, but also students from other faculties who wish to become acquainted with this noble material during their educational process at the university. Students from other universities, doctoral students carrying out their programmes as part of doctoral studies, and participants in classes who deepen their knowledge of ceramics through the Open Academy also attend the studio with great interest.
The aim of the ceramics studio at the Faculty of Sculpture is to draw particular attention to the creative values of ceramic material and its use in sculpture. At a basic level, we prepare students to use various ceramic materials and to independently carry out the entire process of creating a ceramic form, from conception through sketching to execution and technological processing. Students should be able to interpret the assigned exercise topic skilfully and consciously use the properties of ceramic materials when creating spatial sculptural forms. We also have laboratory facilities where, under the supervision of teachers and based on recipes available at the studio, students independently prepare basic glazes.” / dr hab.
