For many years, Bolesławiec County provided the Towarzystwo with premises free of charge, where the food bank is located (Zwycięstwa Street in Bolesławiec). The municipalities did not have to pay for electricity or heating. – It was a gesture of goodwill toward TPD, which was able to operate there for many years – says Katarzyna Biegasiewicz-Mularczyk, spokesperson for the County Office, in a conversation with “ii” Katarzyna Biegasiewicz-Mularczyk. – And this task does not fall within the County’s remit; it is the municipalities’ responsibility.

Moreover, the spokesperson emphasizes that when county officials moved from the building on Zwycięstwa Street to the new headquarters on Armii Krajowej Street, there were plans to close the vacated building so that it would not generate costs. Even then, however, the local government took the food bank’s operation into account. – A decision was made that once again demonstrated the County’s goodwill: there would be no revolution – explains K. Biegasiewicz-Mularczyk. The local government continued to pay, among other things, for heating and water, and the Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Dzieci once again organized a food distribution campaign in the aforementioned building.

Nevertheless, it may be that TPD is doing this for the last time (and certainly in this building). Why? The facility is to be either renovated or sold (no decisions have been made yet).

– Ms. Jadwiga Bobek, president of the Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Dzieci, knew that sooner or later the association would have to move out – says the County Office spokesperson. And she points out: – It is not the case that the County is throwing anyone out onto the street.

What is more, a new possibility for solving this problem has just emerged. Perhaps a building will be found where the food bank can operate in the future. This proposal is being analyzed by the County secretary and the head of the Real Estate Management Department.

Update

– For now, we do not have premises, so we are saying that food distribution will end on Monday, January 18 – Jadwiga Bobek tells us.Jadwiga Bobek.

Will the association continue this campaign if a suitable location is found? Ms. Jadwiga does not say “no”: – But it would have to be premises larger than 250 square meters, on the ground floor, so that a TIR truck could drive up. There would also have to be room for an office, a cold store, 100 pallets of food, as well as space for the people distributing the food.

And she adds: – I do not know whether it will be so easy to find such premises.

We will return to this topic.
