Dear Residents of the Warta Bolesławiecka Municipality

Due to the increase in burglaries and thefts in the Warta Bolesławiecka Municipality, particularly the growing theft of property (including devices, agricultural equipment, cables, etc.) intended for sale at scrap yards, which usually occur on the premises of single-family homes and in rural areas, police officers would like to draw residents’ attention to the issue and provide several important tips. They will help you better protect your property, but may also be significant for police interventions and efforts to prevent thefts and burglaries. It should be remembered that most property crimes are preceded by the thief or burglar surveying the area.

Our home or apartment represents the accumulated fruits of many years of work, so it is worth doing everything possible to minimize the risk of burglary. The head of the Police Station in Warta Bolesławiecka, together with the station’s officers, offer the following advice on how to avoid these unpleasant situations and protect your property.

If you live in a single-family home:

  • secure it by installing bars on basement windows, terraces and balcony doors, especially those at the back of the building;
  • do not forget to secure garage doors and other utility rooms through which it is easy to get into the house;
  • ensure that dark areas around the house and detached garages are illuminated. A thief does not like light, and the higher bill will more than compensate for the increased sense of security.
  • write down the serial numbers of valuable items (computer, television, camera, welding machine, engine, drill, grinder, other electrical devices, etc.), mark them in an individual, durable manner that is invisible to a thief; make a list and, if possible, also photographic documentation of valuable items (jewelry, antiques, valuable paintings, old watches, etc.) – in the event of theft, this will significantly increase the chance of recovering them.

If you live in an apartment:

  • equip the apartment door with suitable security locks – lists of these locks are available from insurance companies and specialist stores;
  • an alarm system provides excellent security;
  • also install anti-pry protection in the door;
  • in apartment blocks, it is worth reinforcing standard doors with sheet metal, replacing them with wooden doors or installing a second additional door;
  • make sure that the light in front of the entrance door is always working – a burglar avoids illuminated places;
  • ground-floor and lowest-floor apartments are most vulnerable to burglary through balcony doors – it is worth considering installing good handles in them (handles that lock with a key have appeared on the market) or at least ordinary bolts;
  • intercoms provide excellent security, but remember not to open the door to strangers using the intercom, and teach this rule to others as well.

Get to know your neighbor:

  • Neighbors who know one another well and are organized can effectively resist burglaries and thefts. Talk to your neighbor about security in your area and agree on how to maintain “neighborhood vigilance”

Inform the Police when:

  • you notice anything that causes concern in your place of residence;
  • you hear noises in a neighbor’s apartment and know that the residents have left;
  • you see a stranger trying to open a neighbor’s door and know that the neighbor is not at home;
  • you notice people behaving suspiciously in the stairwell, on the street or in the parking lot.
