Piotr Roman informed councillors that the latest issue of the “Puls Biznesu” daily featured an article about a new investor in the Bolesławiec subzone of the Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone Invest-Park – Rhenus Logistics. The article states, among other things, that the German investor will build a warehouse here for the e-commerce industry.

Work may begin as early as this year, and the warehouse itself is scheduled to open as early as September 2016. In the first stage of its operations, the company will employ 200 people. Ultimately, however, it plans to create 600–800 new jobs.

“As far as real estate transactions are concerned, this is the largest financial transaction in recent years,” Piotr Roman emphasised. “What is very important is that there is a strong chance that people with very few qualifications will find work there.”

He added: “This is one of the best, if not the best, pieces of news this year.”

The matter was not without controversy, however. Zdzisław Abramowicz of the Bolesławiec Land and Law and Justice club took the floor: “I am not saying this as a provincial defence of Polish land, but nevertheless this is an irreversible sale of land to a German company. How much Bolesławiec land is already permanently controlled by foreign capital?”

The president admitted that the Municipality had sold most of the plots in the subzone to international companies, but that Bolesławiec companies were also present there. He also listed German, Danish and Swiss companies operating in the city. “I would not be concerned about this,” he noted. “Of course, it would be nice if it were Polish capital. But we will welcome anyone who wants to establish a business in the zone with open arms

Later in the City Council meeting, Piotr Roman added that it was not the Municipal Municipality’s role to check investors’ passports. The task of the local government, the president explained, was to provide companies with good conditions for investment.
