“Józef (Andrzej Chyra) comes to France to settle matters from the past. He stays at the home of a Polish immigrant who lives with his teenage daughter, Rose. The stranger arouses the girl’s interest and desires. Before our eyes, a new figure in contemporary cinema is born: the girl ceases to be desired—she begins to desire.” This is an excerpt from the description of the film to which we warmly invite everyone this week at our PozaNova cinema. The film is titled “I Know Someone Who Is Looking for You”, was directed by Julia Kowalski, and can be seen from Friday, 27 November. Weekend tickets cost PLN 14 and 12; screenings begin at 6:01 p.m.

But as they say—one does not live by cinema alone. That is why we are also pleased to invite you all to an extraordinary concert, which will unfortunately be the final event in our autumn series, Zgorzelec Meetings with Theatre. This concert promises to be an exceptionally intimate and nostalgic, yet not humorless, meeting between the audience and the outstanding actor Lech Dyblik, better known to most, for better or worse, as Kazimierz Badura. If you decide to attend, you will discover another side of this modest artist. You will hear how wonderfully he can interpret songs from the streets of Odesa, sung in their original language. Lech Dyblik has something interesting to say about each of these songs, and, as one can discover, many of these stories also fit his own life story perfectly. But why waste keystrokes! It is simply worth coming to find out what a real hero this Dyblik is. The concert “Comrades, Time to Get Up” will take place on Saturday, 28 November. It begins at 6 p.m. Tickets cost PLN 25.

We also warmly invite you on Friday, 27 November to the opening of the photography exhibition “Blickwinkel” beneath our green dome. The exhibition will feature photographs by Dariusz Szczurek, Katrin Jeschke, Maik Stockmann, Peter Krebs, Stefan Hecht, Lutz Saupe, Hannes Ronsch and Tino Ender. You are invited to come at 5 p.m.

Among the interesting events taking place at MDK this week, although not necessarily cultural in nature, it is also worth mentioning Tuesday’s session of the Zgorzelec City Council, which begins at noon and will concern, among other things, local taxes for 2016, as well as Friday’s conference organized at our cultural center by the District Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Zgorzelec. The day before, participants in the Cross-Border University of the Third Age in Zgorzelec will meet here as well for special film workshops.

So there is quite a lot going on. Come and join us.
