The Institute of Meteorology wants to install an automatic measuring station there, and consequently will no longer need a building and the entire facilities for its employees, namely the observers.
One thing is certain. As Andrzej Raj, director of KPN, emphasizes, there is no possibility that this facility will be sold. It will certainly remain under the authority of the Ministry of the Environment. “The saucers on Śnieżka require enormous investment—not only a major renovation of the lower saucer, which housed a restaurant, but also the construction of a water supply and wastewater disposal system,” says Andrzej Raj. Without this, the facility on Śnieżka simply cannot continue to operate.
KPN authorities will discuss the possibility of using the building on Śnieżka as an educational and tourist facility with the Ministry of the Environment, IMGW, the Czech KRNAP and the Karpacz local government. No final decision has yet been made regarding the future of the saucers.
