The fraudster operated throughout the country, including in Bolków and Kamienna Góra. From 19 January 2013 to 21 May 2013, he telephoned elderly people, claiming to be their grandson and saying that he needed money. He told them that he had caused a road accident and knocked down a pedestrian, and therefore needed funds to hand over as a bribe to a police officer. On other occasions, he claimed that the person he had knocked down on the road was demanding money as compensation for the harm suffered.
The perpetrator of these crimes was identified and apprehended in Bolków on 21 May 2013.
On 4 November 2015, the Regional Court in Jelenia Góra found Piotr A. guilty of the offenses charged by the prosecutor and sentenced him to a combined term of 2 years and 6 months in prison. In addition, it ordered him to remedy the damage by paying a total of PLN 101,167 to all the injured parties.
