A man posing as an employee of the Municipal Social Welfare Center offered help with paying electricity and gas bills. Taking advantage of the tenant’s inattention, the man stole PLN 700 from her.
Officers from the Police Station in Chojnów identified and detained the perpetrator of the theft. He is a 37-year-old resident of the town who has nothing to do with working in social welfare.
The man was placed in police custody. He faces up to five years in prison.
The officers are checking whether he was also responsible for thefts committed in a similar manner in Chojnów and nearby towns.
