As last year, the initiative attracted a large audience, which filled the auditorium to capacity despite the unfavourable weather. The event was prepared by the Zgorzelec County governor and the Mayor of Zgorzelec City, with the participation of students from the State Music School in Zgorzelec.
Emil Smardzewski and Patrycja Spendowska put everyone gathered in a patriotic mood by performing works by our outstanding composer Fryderyk Chopin. The hosts of the celebrations began the “Singing Together” by quoting an excerpt from Andrzej Garlicki’s “The First Years of the Second Polish Republic: The History of the Polish Nation and State” and Józef Piłsudski’s “On the State and the Army”.
The ceremony was led by the music school choir under the direction of Małgorzata Duda, with piano accompaniment by Dominik Lewicki. The first song, the most important one for everyone, was the National Anthem—Dąbrowski’s Mazurka—which created an exceptionally solemn mood. The entire hall sang the subsequent songs, including “Rota”, “Camp March”, “Warszawianka”, “O My Rosemary, Bloom and Grow” and “The First Brigade”. After the “Singing Together”, muffins decorated with the Polish flag were prepared for the audience.
Throughout the Independence Day celebrations in Zgorzelec, scouts gave residents patriotic rosettes made by primary and
lower-secondary school students.
The concert created an extraordinary atmosphere, because singing patriotic songs together has a special power—it is not only a source of emotion and moving experiences, but also evokes a sense of community and unity among those singing.
