We return to the case. The Görlitz Prosecutor’s Office is conducting an investigation into the road accident caused by K. on 13 September 2015 and his flight from the scene.

It was established that late that evening, a man who was unknown at the time, driving an Audi passenger car near Zittau at excessive speed, failed to stop for a German police order to undergo a roadside check. Wanting to get through the checkpoint, he deliberately hit a 52-year-old German police officer and then drove into Polish territory.

As a result of being hit, the police officer sustained serious bodily injuries. He was therefore taken to hospital.

From the moment of the incident, both the Polish and German police and prosecutors worked to clarify its circumstances. In particular, they took steps to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.

He turned out to be 33-year-old Daniel K. The aforementioned man was arrested on 29 October by officers of the Nysa Investigation Group and then brought before the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra.

After questioning him as a suspect, the prosecutor asked the Regional Court to order K.’s pre-trial detention until 28 December.

Daniel K. did not admit to committing the alleged offence, although he confirmed that he had been at the scene.

On 6 November, the local Regional Prosecutor’s Office received documents from the Görlitz Prosecutor’s Office that made it possible to apply to the Regional Court for the execution of a European Arrest Warrant against the suspect.
