Removing the illegal dump will cost nearly PLN 5,000. The landfill, covering approximately 50 m², contained used plastic, glass and metal packaging, foil, construction waste and other materials. The police conducted an investigation into the matter, but failed to find the person responsible for illegally dumping the waste. It was only established that the waste had been accumulated there for a long time. The local government will now have to remove the dumping site at a cost of nearly PLN 5,000, paid from the municipal budget.
“It is difficult to find an explanation for such conduct,” admits Ewelina Bilańska from the Department of Environmental Protection, Water Management, Agriculture and Forestry of the Rudna Municipal Office. “In our municipality, renovation and construction waste can be handed over free of charge to the Selective Municipal Waste Collection Point, in an amount of up to 2 tonnes over three years. All other waste is collected from every property by municipal services as part of a flat-rate fee of PLN 8 per month per person for separated waste, and PLN 20 for unsorted waste.
Municipal officials remind residents that littering forests, water, soil and public places is punishable by a fine. The offender may also be charged with the costs of removing the illegal landfill, remediating the soil or neutralising the waste.
