We will express our joy at National Independence Day by taking part in the Independence Runs, open to children, young people and adults alike.
The start and finish of the runs will be organised in front of the OSiR headquarters at 7 Najświętszej Marii Panny Street.
At 4:00 p.m., children and young people will start the Independence Run over the following distances:
- children with disabilities – 200 m
- children up to 5 years old – 200 m
- primary school children – girls/boys – grades 1–3 – 300 m
- primary school children – girls/boys – grades 4–6 – 400 m
- lower-secondary school students – girls/boys – grades 1–3 – 500 m
- students of upper-secondary schools – girls/boys – grades 1–3/4 – 700 m.
After crossing the finish line, all participants will receive commemorative medals, while winners in the individual categories will receive diplomas. Entries for the run are accepted by email: ci@osir.legnica.pl or in person at the office at 7 N.M.Panny Street. Students supervised by a teacher should be entered on a collective list.
At 6:00 p.m., the main run over a distance of 5,200 m will start.
The run route consists of four 1,300 m laps. Competitors will start outside the OSiR headquarters, then turn right into Szpitalna Street, continue to Środkowa Street and run along its entire length to the Market Square, which they will circle. They will then run around the Cathedral and onto the pedestrian promenade along Jana Pawła II Square to Najświętszej Marii Panny Street, next to the starting point. They will then run around the Church of the Virgin Mary and, through the starting gate, complete the next three laps.
The number of participants is limited to 300. Everyone who completes the run will receive a commemorative medal, while the best competitors in their categories will be awarded cash prizes. Trophies will be presented in the open category.
The main run will be preceded by a special ceremony. At 5:30 p.m., 97 torches will be lit, accompanied by the national anthem. Volunteers carrying torches will then move onto the run route to light the way for the competitors.
After the run, competitors and volunteers will be served goose stew, already a traditional Independence Day treat prepared by Legnica’s OSiR.
The event will be enhanced by melodies and insurrection songs in the first part, followed by popular music performed by Akcent.
During the Independence Runs in Legnica, competitors and spectators will be able to take part in a charity campaign for the benefit of ill Szymek Kraska. OSiR, together with the cathedral parish and Szymek’s family, will organise a food fair. Visitors will be able to taste homemade cakes, baked apples, jacket potatoes and slices of bread, or enjoy delicious coffee.
A small raffle will also be held. The funds raised will be used to help save the health of ill Szymek.
Due to the organisation of the Independence Run, traffic disruptions will occur on 10 November from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m. on Środkowa, Paderewskiego and Młynarska Streets, for which the run organiser apologises.
Volunteers willing to help organise the run are asked to register in person at the OSiR headquarters. Each volunteer will receive a commemorative package and a hot meal from the organiser.
Information and registration for the main run are available at www.osir.legnica.pl, and at www.datasport.pl under the Independence Run tab.
