We wrote about the matter in mid-October in the article Wild boars and roe deer will not be able to enter the A4. GDDKiA will install a fence. “The documentation for fencing the A4 motorway on the Krzywa–Wrocław section will be prepared by the end of the year,” Maciej Wołodko from the press office of the Wrocław branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways told us at the time.
The section is 100 kilometres long, so a total of 200 kilometres of fencing will be built. “The aim is to protect drivers from animals entering the motorway,” explained M. Wołodko.
Two of our readers immediately asked how high the fence would be and whether it would also stop “more dangerous animals—deer and moose.” We decided to ask the GDDKiA spokesperson about this. Maciej Wołodko:
The planned fencing of the A4 motorway on the section from Krzywa to Wrocław will be 2.40 metres above the adjacent ground in forested areas, and 2.20 metres in other areas. The migration routes of individual animal species were, of course, taken into account; these routes require denser fencing at the bottom or an increased fence height in forested areas.
What do you think—is this height sufficient?
