Val has a daughter of her own, but she has not seen her for years. She left her in their hometown in the care of relatives. Unexpectedly, the girl announces that she is coming to visit. Jessica is now a young, self-confident woman. She plans to study architecture in São Paulo and does not accept the relationship between the householders and the servant. Instead of moving into her mother’s small room, she takes the guest room, helps herself to whatever she wants from the refrigerator, and even swims in the pool with Fabinho and his friends. Step by step, the once-unchallengeable household rules begin to fall apart—against Val’s wishes.
And finally, in the middle of an argument between mother and daughter, Jessica’s secret is revealed… The film won the Audience Award in the Panorama section at this year’s Berlin Film Festival and the Special Jury Prize at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.
