Exercises related to an aircraft crash in mountainous terrain were held in Kowary. The training was organized by the Operational Command of the Branches of the Polish Armed Forces under the code name Renegade/Sarex II-15. In addition to the military, the Lower Silesian police, fire service, GOPR, Border Guard and prosecutor’s office took part in the operation.

After information was received about an aviation accident and an aircraft crash, search-and-rescue operations began immediately. Police officers who arrived in the exercise area secured the scene and set up checkpoints on access routes. At the same time, rescue services conducted operations aimed at finding injured people and providing them with assistance. Once the rescue operations had ended, investigative activities began to clarify the circumstances of the incident.

The main objective of the “Renegade” operation was to check all services’ readiness to act in the event of a crisis situation and to improve procedures for cooperation between different services in a situation posing a threat to security.
