The subject matter of the songs performed during the concert in the Forum hall was extremely diverse – ranging from typically religious themes characteristic of synagogue songs to scenes from everyday life, such as the shearing of sheep and the spinning and weaving of wool described in Emanuel Amiran's song "Hages".
The choir was founded in 1962 by Werner Sander, who also authored the arrangements for most of the songs presented during the Bolesławiec concert. Since 1972, the choir has been conducted by Helmut Klotz and primarily performs 19th- and 20th-century synagogue music as well as Hebrew and Jewish folklore. In recent years, the choir has performed in Poland, Israel, Spain, Portugal and the USA, among other countries. Since 1991, the choir has been supported by the City of Leipzig and the state of Saxony; it has also received the City of Leipzig's artistic award.
The second Bolesławiec concert will take place on September 13 at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and will feature the Hungarian ensemble Capella Savaria.
