The event was held as part of culinary workshops conducted at the village community center in Studzionki. “We want to pass on our traditions and passion for making pierogi to our children, while also having a good time and enjoying a good meal,” says Joanna Borejszo from the community center in Studzionki.
So far, as part of the culinary workshops, the residents of Studzionki have already learned how to prepare authentic toast and Italian pizza. Now it was time for pierogi. “I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like them. They are our traditional Polish dish, and everyone enjoys them,” adds Joanna Borejszo.
The real surprise during the workshop was the unusual way Anna Oleśniewicz—a vocalist with the Lemko Folk Ensemble “Roztoka”—made pierogi. From the prepared dough, she made not round but square pieces to fill with stuffing, similar to the well-known Italian ravioli. “I have been preparing pierogi this way for years. I cut the dough into squares with a knife. Pierogi can have different shapes depending on how they are sealed. They can be square or even triangular. They can also be very small, which requires great precision when shaping them,” explains Anna Oleśniewicz.
The culinary workshop ended, of course, with a pierogi feast.
