On the first Monday of the month, 5 October, Jerzy Kawalerowicz’s film Train will be shown. An intimate psychological study and a poetic story about loneliness, as well as a collective portrait of Poles at the end of the 1950s. Two chance travellers meet in a sleeping compartment. The subtle interplay of their emotions—from mutual dislike to intimacy without a future—unfolds against the backdrop of the human microcosm crammed into the train. Halfway through the journey, its peaceful rhythm is disrupted by the appearance of militiamen searching for a murderer... The film stars Lucyna Winnicka, Leon Niemczyk and Zbigniew Cybulski. Digitally restored.

The following Monday, 12 October, brings The Tribe. This dialogue-free film tells the story of life in a Ukrainian boarding school for deaf-mute students, where surviving means becoming part of the titular “tribe”. Violence, robberies and prostitution—this is the reality depicted in the film. An outstanding Ukrainian debut and one of the most original voices in cinema in recent years.

On 19 October, Youth, the latest film by the director of the Oscar-winning The Great Beauty. Paolo Sorrentino presents a visually dazzling story, full of emotion and witty humour, about guests at a luxury hotel at the foot of the Alps.

On the last Monday, we will screen the documentary The Salt of the Earth. In his latest film, Wim Wenders portrays a 70-year-old Brazilian photographer so that viewers can discover a great photojournalist and humanist who documented human tragedies with dignity.
