Police officers from the Traffic Division of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra detained, after a chase, a 35-year-old resident of Jawor County suspected of driving while intoxicated and causing property damage.
The incident occurred on September 24. At around 8:35 p.m., a Jelenia Góra traffic police officer patrolling the city with a Border Guard officer noticed a VW vehicle on Konstytucji 3 Maja Street. The driver's manner of driving indicated that he might have been under the influence of alcohol.
The officers decided to stop him for a roadside check. However, he did not stop; on the contrary, he turned onto a gravel road and began to flee. During the escape, the driver rammed a barrier at one of the parking lots.
Another patrol from the Traffic Division joined the chase. After driving for several minutes, the driver abandoned the car and began to flee on foot. He was detained shortly afterward.
The driver turned out to be a 35-year-old resident of Jawor County. He was arrogant, rude and… drunk. The test showed 1.5 per mille.
He now faces up to 5 years in prison.
