On Thursday, a debate devoted to the topic “Young people in politics” was held in the county office’s meeting room. Grzegorz Napieralski, General Secretary of the SLD and a Sejm deputy, answered questions from the young people. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Young Democrats, Ziemia Bolesławiecka, the Federation of Young Social Democrats (the debate’s organiser), unaffiliated young people, and members and supporters of the Bolesławiec left.
The young people spoke directly about issues concerning them: unemployment and going abroad, morality in politics, and the place of young people in political parties. The questions also concerned the current situation in the country. “Will the government coalition last until the end of the term?”, “An assessment of Minister Roman Giertych’s actions”, and “What future awaits Poland?” were just some of the questions put to Grzegorz Napieralski.
Napieralski explained to the young people that, regarding the “replacement of personnel”, all parties were undergoing gradual evolution and that an increasing number of young people were taking important positions in party and state structures. Asked whether the government coalition would survive until the end of the term, the SLD General Secretary replied: “Earlier I thought it would not, but after recent events I think it will.” Napieralski stressed that those in power were strongly determined to retain power, but that the government’s actions made the future look bleak.
At the end of the debate, a dispute arose between Mateusz Brandt and Grzegorz Napieralski. The young man accused the SLD party of being responsible for the increase in unemployment and for people’s difficult financial situation. Unfortunately, he was unable to clearly explain what data he had based his argument on. At the end of the debate, Grzegorz Napieralski thanked the youth organisations for their active participation and for asking thoughtful questions. “I am pleased with the conversation and with the fact that Poles are able to talk to one another. There is room for everyone in Poland,” Napieralski said at the close of the meeting.
