The award, in the form of a beautiful statuette and diploma, was accepted from the minister and Chief Inspector of Environmental Protection, Jerzy Kuliński, by the company’s president, Józef Król.

The Rakowice Water Treatment Plant, modernized in 2014, was entered in the competition by the President of the Voivodeship Fund for Environmental Protection, Marek Skorupa.

The Rakowice Water Treatment Plant is the most modern, fully automated and unmanned water treatment facility, with continuous water-quality analysis, supplied by 13 deep wells in a siphon system (there are no pumps in the wells). The plant has a production capacity of 10,000 m3 of water per day. It is the most important of the five Water Treatment Plants serving the City and Municipality of Bolesławiec.

The “Modernization of the Year 2014” title was awarded on August 27, 2015, at the Royal Castle in Warsaw in 13 categories. In the 19th edition of the nationwide competition, 762 projects were entered. The competition jury, chaired by Prof. Adam Podhorecki, PhD, DSc, Adama Podhoreckiego selected 60 projects. Representatives of these modernizations—investors, contractors and designers—attended the grand gala, where distinctions for finalists and main awards in individual categories were presented. The ceremony was enhanced by a performance by the “Śląsk” Song and Dance Ensemble.

The annual “Modernization of the Year” competitions are organized by the Association for the Protection of the National Material Heritage. The event is held under the patronage of, among others, the President of the Republic of Poland; the Ministries of Infrastructure and Development and National Education; and the Chief Inspectors of Environmental Protection and Construction Supervision.
