The incident occurred on August 29 during the night. Police officers from Zgorzelec patrolling the city noticed a young man trying to start a moped. Seeing the approaching officers, he left the scooter and tried to walk away quickly.
After being detained, the 20-year-old resident of Zgorzelec Municipality explained that he had stolen the moped from a nearby street. He wanted to start it, but noticed the police officers. He added that he did not know what had come over him.
The stolen moped, worth PLN 3,000, was returned to its owner, while the suspect was taken into police custody.
The police are currently clarifying all the circumstances of the case in detail, including determining whether the detained man has committed more offenses.
The 20-year-old faces up to five years in prison.
