The largest harvest festival celebrations in Bolesławiec Municipality were organised by the village of Żeliszów. Andrzej Dutkowski, Head of Bolesławiec Municipality, warmly thanked the hosts for finding the time and strength to welcome all the guests to the harvest festival celebrations.
– The harvest festival is not only a tradition; it also signifies our attachment to the land – said Andrzej Dutkowski. – It feeds us with its fruits. Harvest festival wreaths and loaves of bread made from this year’s grain, presented as offerings during Holy Mass, are symbols of gratitude. This year’s mild winter accelerated fieldwork, but summer brought heatwaves, and we knew much earlier that the harvest would be poor. The situation is dramatic. I thank the priests for the profound words of the homily and the residents of Żeliszów for welcoming us here. I appreciate the fact that they prepared today’s celebrations with such enthusiasm – the head of the municipality said.
Żeliszów hosted representatives of the Senate and Sejm of the Republic of Poland, the voivodeship, the county, the municipality and the city of Bolesławiec. Those attending the celebrations included Senator Jan Michalski, MP Zofia Czernow, Stanisław Huskowski, Deputy Minister of Administration and Digitisation, Marshal Cezary Przybylski, Leszek Grela, President of the Lower Silesian Chamber of Agriculture, County Head Dariusz Kwaśniewski, Mayor Piotr Roman, and priests Andrzej Kryłowski and Rev. Dr Stanisław Kusik, deans of the deaneries who celebrated the harvest festival Mass. The harvest festival’s marshal and marshal’s wife were: Elżbieta Potocka and Robert Krzyżanowski.
As part of the festival’s rich programme, viewers watched a moving spoken-word and musical performance prepared by ZPiT Ziemi Bolesławieckiej. The musical performances and poems were prepared by pupils of the primary school in Żeliszów. There were also many competitions, prizes were awarded for the most beautiful homestead, winners of the KRUS competition were recognised, and the most beautiful harvest festival wreath was selected. The star of the harvest festival was the band BOYS.
