Boundaries of the Silesian Beskids

To the west, this range borders the Silesian-Moravian Beskids (separated as a distinct range in 1968; before then, the entire area was considered part of the Silesian Beskids; the two ranges are divided by the Jablunkov Pass). To the southeast, the range borders the Żywiec Beskids (separated by the Zwardoń Pass, the Czerna stream and, farther on, the Soła River), while to the east it borders the Żywiec Basin. To the north, the Silesian Beskids border the Silesian Foothills, and to the northeast the Little Beskids (separated by the Wilkowska Gate).

Historically, most of the Silesian Beskids belong to Cieszyn Silesia (Upper Silesia), while the eastern and southeastern parts lie in the Żywiec region (Lesser Poland). The most popular tourist towns in the Silesian Beskids include Szczyrk, Wisła, Ustroń, Bielsko-Biała, Istebna and Brenna.

Trails in the Silesian Beskids

The best-known trail running through the Silesian Beskids is, of course, the Kazimierz Sosnowski Main Beskid Trail. It begins in the Silesian Beskids, in Ustroń, and then runs through the highest parts of the Polish Beskids all the way to the village of Wołosate in the Bieszczady Mountains. At nearly 496 kilometres, it is the longest trail marked out in the Polish mountains. From the Silesian Beskids, the trail continues through the Żywiec Beskids, the Gorce Mountains, the Sącz Beskids, the Low Beskids and ends in the aforementioned Bieszczady Mountains. Following this trail, you can reach popular peaks including Stożek, Babia Góra, Barania Góra, Turbacz, Jaworzyna Krynicka, Radziejowa and Halicz.

In addition, a great many other trails have been marked out. Wisła is an excellent base for trips to Stożek Wielki, Stożek Mały, Soszów Wielki or Szczyrk via the Salmopol Pass. Trails to Równica lead from Skoczów, Brenna and Ustroń. From Równica, you can continue to the Trzy Kopce Wiślańskie. From Szczyrk, you can reach Barania Góra via Skrzyczne, Małe Skrzyczne, and then Malinowska Skała and Magurka Wiślańska.
