The next event in the “Who Lives on Copper(-y)?” series aims to present the national and ethnic groups living in the Copper Basin. These include Lemkos, Ukrainians, Germans, Jews, Russians, Roma, as well as Poles—people resettled from the Eastern Borderlands or re-emigrants from Bosnia and Bukovina. We live on the same land, yet often know so little about one another. That is why, for two years, Legnickie Centrum Kultury has been running this series, allowing us to get to know each other better.

During Saturday’s edition of the festival, visitors will be able to see folk crafts stalls and exhibitions. There will also be an opportunity to sample interesting dishes. Culinary stalls will be set up, for example, by a group of former Legnica residents who will come from Germany especially for the festival, at the invitation of the German Social and Cultural Association. Folk ensembles will perform on stage: Zespól Folklorystyczny Ziemi Ścinawskiej, Zespół Ludowy “Polanie” from Proszków, Zespół Folklorystyczny “Niezapominajki” from Osła, Wesoła Gromadka from Gromadka, Zespół Folklorystyczny “Sobinianie”, Zespół Górali Czadeckich “Dawidenka” from Koźlice, and Zespół Pieśni i Tańca “Legnica”.

The idea for the “Who Lives on Copper(-y)?” project was born two years ago on the initiative of the Folklore, National Minorities and Documentation Department operating within Legnickie Centrum Kultury.

In addition to the summer festival, the project involves documentation work, publishing books and organizing exhibitions. As part of these activities, presentations titled “Today in Bethlehem”, “From Easter to Whitsun” and “The Charm of the Old Borderlands” have also been held.
