As reported by Andrzej Szymkowiak, director of the Municipal Roads Authority, the work will begin with the renovation of Niepodległości Roundabout. Initially, two lanes—the so-called right-turn lanes—will be closed to traffic: the lane from the city centre along Piłsudskiego Avenue into Sikorskiego Street, and the lane from Sikorskiego Street to Piłsudskiego Avenue towards Sudecka Street.

Traffic will continue straight through the roundabout and towards the hospital. Drivers using these routes will have to follow the new road signs placed there.

Difficulties will arise at the intersection of Sikorskiego and Sudecka streets, although it will remain passable. Construction of a temporary roundabout will begin here; it will be crucial for traffic management, including for safety reasons. It will be built from road-mounted overlays, with a prefabricated island installed on them. Vehicles will be able to turn around in a single lane, including the longest vehicles, such as articulated buses. The roundabout will reduce vehicle speeds on Sikorskiego Street.

Once the work at Niepodległości Roundabout is completed, it will be opened and reconstruction of Sikorskiego Street will begin on the section from the roundabout to the intersection with Iwaszkiewicza Street. All carriageways of the reconstructed Sikorskiego Street will be closed for this period. A detour will be designated via Sudecka Street.

Let us recall: the tender for reconstructing Sikorskiego Street—from Niepodległości Roundabout to Iwaszkiewicza Street—was won by Berger Bau Polska. The company offered the lowest price, nearly PLN 4.2 million. It declared that it would complete the work by 31 October of this year and provide an 84-month warranty.

What will be done? A very important traffic-management solution will be the construction of a turbo roundabout at the intersection of Sikorskiego and Iwaszkiewicza streets. An additional traffic lane will be built here for vehicles turning right from Sikorskiego Street into Iwaszkiewicza Street. The road, pavements and cycle paths will, of course, also be reconstructed.

As part of this project, a new bus stop will be built just beyond the intersection of Sikorskiego and Iwaszkiewicza streets, in the direction of Wrocławska Street. Meanwhile, the bus bay on Sikorskiego Street, opposite the church, will undergo a thorough modernisation. The stop on Sikorskiego Street before the intersection with Wrocławska Street will be removed.
