The exhibition “Faces of Asia” by German photographer Tobias Sommer presents the strength of character, depth and colours of portraits from China and Tibet. In addition to portraits, photographs were also created showing the way of life and landscapes; some of them were taken in a documentary style. Visitors to the exhibition can also view a series of photographs from the wardrobe of the Beijing opera, as well as artistically developed scenes from Tiananmen Square.
Born in Meissen, Tobias G. Sommer has been interested in photography and films since childhood. Form, colour and their interaction continue to fascinate him to this day. Therefore, after completing music studies (piano), he took up photography professionally. Alongside commissions from leading magazines, newspapers, advertising agencies and private individuals, he is primarily engaged in artistic projects that result in exhibitions.
The photographs were taken without artificial light, giving them a high level of authenticity. Another characteristic feature, particularly of the photographs taken in Tibet, is their intense colours, which T. Sommer gives a unique style using digital techniques.
The exhibition is complemented by diverse frames and forms of presenting the photographs, created by S. Will.
The exhibition can be viewed until the end of October at the villa of Nasze Zoo, Monday to Friday.
For guests of Nasze Zoo, the exhibition is free of charge.
