Without grazing the meadows, the open landscape around Lake Görlitz would very quickly be replaced by forest, and the existing ecosystem and beautiful views would disappear. Regular grazing of the meadows is a way of maintaining the open landscape, providing many animal species with suitable living conditions.

Thanks to the cooperation of the Upper Lusatian Association for Nature Research, Matthias Mütze, the farmer at the lake, and Our Zoo Görlitz-Zgorzelec, the open landscape by the lake will be preserved. For this purpose, old, hardy breeds of farm animals, such as red cattle and Pomeranian sheep, will graze the meadows. Both breeds are endangered and can be seen at Our Zoo Görlitz-Zgorzelec.

As part of the project, M. Mütze makes his animals available at the lake. At Our Zoo, visitors have direct contact with animals of these breeds and can also learn a great deal of valuable information about them.

Moreover, Our Zoo will provide veterinary care for the animals at the lake. The farmer at the lake is committed to protecting the landscape through consistent, ecological farming practices, as well as initiating the development of environmentally friendly, sustainable use with a closed material cycle.
