Officers from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra arrested a 25-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra suspected of at least six thefts of money from post offices and pharmacies, totaling more than PLN 12,000.
The perpetrator took advantage of the inattention of people serving customers. For example, at a post office he asked about the possibility of sending a parcel, or he distracted a pharmacy employee by looking for medicine on the pharmacy shelves. When the clerk or pharmacy employee serving him turned away, the 25-year-old took money from unsecured drawers and cash boxes and left. In some cases, the victims did not realize until several hours later that certain amounts of money were missing.
The perpetrator had previously been convicted of similar offenses. He confessed to the crimes. He faces up to 7.5 years in prison.
